The flight was a few hours late, saving them from having to land at Narita at the exact time the earthquake hit. The pilot diverted to Anchorage. In the meantime, her home town of Nagano was hit with another earthquake. Last I heard they were back on the plan ready to take off from Anchorage. After everyone was on board,a heated discussion broke out among the crew. Most of the crew wanted to return to Chicago while the company wanted them to fly on to Narita.
